India is the dominant country of South Asia, in terms of size, culture, and length of civilization. Indian civilization has a 5000 year history and has influenced not only all the other nations of South Asia but many in Southeast Asia as well. Indian inventions, such as the mathematical concept of zero, Indian discoveries, such as cotton, Indian philosophies, such as Yoga, have affected the entire world while Indian cuisine is so well known that the smallest grocery in North America carries curry powder. India has a rich, colorful, and diverse culture and history; as the world's second most populous nation at 1 billion persons, plus a rapidly developing economy, India stands poised to play a vital role in the 21st century.
