Nepal is best known as the home of Mount Everest, the highest mountain in the world and part of the Himalayan Mountain Range. Home of Lumbini, the birthplace of the Buddha, Nepal is today a Hindu monarchy; both Buddhism and Hinduism have shaped Nepal's history and culture. Nepal has special Hindu rites, the most famous being the tradition of the living goddess, the Kumari Devi, a young girl chosen as the goddess until she reaches puberty, when another child is selected. Surrounded by India and China, with no access to the sea, Nepal has been called "a yam between two rocks." For more information on Nepal, please click on the above buttons.
